MOD Project at Women's Gathering Place on May 16
The Be a Dear and Donate a Brassiere Section is sponsoring the MOD (Make Over Day) Project on Monday, May 16 from 12:00 p.m to 4 p.m. in downtown San Jose at Women's Gathering Place.
30 homeless women will enjoy lunch and a full makeover including several outfits that best fit their personal style, new makeup and a new hairstyle. Each woman will leave with several outfits, a portrait, and a SWAG bag.
Volunteers are needed to assist with setup, lunch preparation and serving, and guiding women through the various beauty stations.
Gently used spring and summer clothing, accessories and shoes, and raffle items, such as gift cards or movie tickets, are also needed.

A Night in Old Havana: Mixology, Music, and Architecture

Make your way through the palm trees to the San Jose Woman's Club –the scene of spicy and sultry Cuba-central, for a Night in Old Havana!
Enjoy a Cuba Libre, Mojito, or Rum Punch, or a cuban Mocktail and nosh on Havana street food while listening to hot Cuban beats. Guys: Dust off your white fedora and don your guayabera shirt. Gals: 50s tropical cocktail or cuban whites are muy bonita! Yes, there will be a costume contest! Don't forget to snap a selfie in the Hot Havana Photo Booth.
At 8 p.m., John Pastier, a Seattle design critic and the first architecture critic for the Los Angeles Times will present a slide show of Havana Architecture.
The evening is co-hosted by SJWC and Preservation Action Council * San Jose.
Women in Nature: Words from Women of Wisdom

San Jose Woman’s Club continues its new speaker, series, Words from Women of Wisdom with Women in Nature, featuring Andrea Mackenzie, General Manager of the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority.
For more than 25 years, Andrea has been a passionate leader for open space protection; working at the intersection of urban and open space planning, policy and funding to preserve the region’s most significant natural and working landscapes. Her passion is fueled by a deep love of nature, and strong belief in the power of collaboration. She believes that investing in the preservation and stewardship of our natural and working landscapes is essential to ensuring a sustainable future for the Bay Area.
Andrea is now focused on catalyzing decision-makers, the business community and the public to recognize nature as a critical life support system for our cities and urban populations. Joining conservation colleagues in Sonoma and Santa Cruz Counties, she helped launch the Healthy Lands, Healthy Economies Initiative and Nature’s Value in Santa Clara County, the first ever comprehensive assessment and economic valuation of the services provided by open space, natural areas and working lands.
Tickets include light refreshments.
About Words from Women of Wisdom
This new series on the 5th Wednesday of the month at the historic San Jose Woman’s Club features prominent women of the South Bay, discussing how women can make a difference in today’s world.
Parking: Parking passes are available for street parking for week day events. Parking is free on most streets surrounding the Clubhouse after 6 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends, except the 00 block of 12th Street. Off-street parking is available at the SJSU 10th St. Garage (entrance on E. San Fernando St. between S. 10th St. and S. 9th St.).
